Kicking Off the Love Season With a Kiss

Starting to get ready for the season of love...

The Hershey Company introduced this milk chocolate candy to the nation in 1907  (making this a perfect stamp to add the the collection of vintage valentines. ) Production ceased from 1942 to 1949, when silver foil was rationed as a result of the war effort. Award-winning illustrator José Ortega of New York City and Toronto designed the With Love and Kisses stamp.

Vintage Valentines

View vintage valentines (circa 1910-1911) from our collection.

These cards are part of a collection sent to my grandmother and her sister when they were little girls. One is addressed to "Baby Edna." Dates on the post marks are from 1910 and 1911. Some of the addresses are wonderfully sweet. These were sent at a time when one only had to write "City" or "Local" and the post office knew that meant Columbus!
